After extended deliberation, USRowing Collegiate Series Commissioner, Gary Caldwell, has announced the cancellation of the Women's Sprints, National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) and Men's Sprints regattas.
The well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, referee corps, and local volunteers came to the forefront of this decision. With caution being issued by health experts to practice social distancing, coupled with professional leagues and events suspending play, and experienced administrators at the NCAA and other organizations taking drastic steps to cancel their respective spring championships, we feel it is morally and ethically responsible to make the same determination.
Please know this decision did not come lightly and we share in the disappointment for all of our attendees. To our student-athletes, we expect additional information in the coming weeks regarding season of eligibility waivers and will communicate as appropriate with your institutional compliance office staff.
We wish you and your families good health during these uncertain times. We hope to see you back at our respective Championships in 2021.
Note: As of Thursday, March 12, row2k set an internal policy not to send staff to any events requiring anything but short drives; the policy was created ahead of the Olympic Trials I, where we felt that going through airports and taking a flight into an environment where Olympic hopefuls were congregated was irresponsible at best. The policy has obviously evolved to include more than just the Olympic Trials, and will remain in place until further notice.
